Six Degrees of Bowie

I spent the day at home today on combination dog-sitting / Finance-exam-studying duty. While reviewing, I took the opportunity to try out iTunes’ new “Genius” feature. Here’s how it works – you select a single song, click “Genius,” and iTunes makes you a 25 song playlist full of similar or related songs.

As I was home all day, I was able to do this about six times and found myself loving it – I heard songs that I hadn’t for years, new songs, and songs I didn’t even know I owned.

Here’s the weird thing – every single playlist contained “Five Years” by David Bowie. Every one. iTunes even included a Bowie tune in a playlist started from a Billy Holiday song.

So I learned something new today (beyond Corporate Finance, that is):

From Bowie all music springs.
